Final Images- Assignment #1

This project was produced during a family trip to New York for my cousin’s, Nicole, wedding.  These images portray the different relationships I have with my family as well as capture moments that are over looked during this sort of occasion.  This series focuses on candid moments rather than the expected posed images that document a wedding.  Minimal manipulation was used during the editing of these images in order to maintain their reality.

Project 1: In-Progress Critique

These images have not been fully edited at this point. Some images that are similar are those which I am still deciding one or the other to use.

Assignment #1 - Project Proposal

For the first assignment, the final product will consist of about eight to ten photos.  These will be edited down from an indefinite number of images at the time (how many images are captured is undetermined).  I will be using a DSLR set on a continuous shooting mode in order to capture more than the initial scene in front of the camera in an attempt to capture a more interesting shot that was apparent previously.  The final size for these images will be 8 x 10 due to the amount of images shown, as I do not want the space they occupy to be overwhelming but rather allow each image to be given close examination and time.  The subjects or collaborators in my images will be my mother, father, older sister, and my extended family on my father's side.  These images will be captured during a family trip to New York to attend my cousin's wedding.  Images will be taken throughout the duration of the trip, not only the time spent at or preparing for the wedding.  Richard Billingham, Anneleis Strba, and Elinor Carucci are all artists that work in similar manners, capturing images of their families at private moments.  This work is meant to allow the audience to make connections between the subjects in the images, who are strangers to them, and those who are part of their own personal relationships.  Working with the narrative elements the work will show the union of two individuals with the attendance of their family and the unique traditions of being of Lebanese heritage as well as possible mishaps that often occur on family vacations.  The emotions of the work will depend on the mood of the subjects which cannot be predetermined.
